RECIPES THAT WILL MAKE ANYONE GO PLANT-BASED: AIR-FRIED BBQ CAULIFLOWER WINGS
Another mouth-watering recipe to add to my series! This is sort of a dual recipe for my “air-fryer” series as well as my “recipes that will make anyone go plant based” series. These are by far some of the best tasting cauli wings I’ve made. Now, I’ve made super simple ones with just some buffalo sauce and spices… but these bad boys are full on breaded and crisped to perfection. They really do make the perfect finger food for parties!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
1/2 cup all purpose GF flour (I use Bobs Red Mill 1:1)
2 tsp garlic powder
salt & pepper
cauliflower florets
1/2 cup non dairy milk (I used Oat)
1/4 cup of water
homemade barbecue sauce
2/3 cup of ketchup (check your ingredients and make sure there is no added sugars)
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons tamari sauce
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp paprika
OPTIONAL
a lil bit of hot sauce is never a bad idea ;)
METHOD
Grab a large bowl and mix together the flour, garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Add your milk and water until combined.
Dip your cauliflower into the batter making sure it’s fully coated and then place them in your greased air fryer. I cooked mine at 375 for about 5 minutes. They should be a half way done cooking, so almost crispy but still a little bit wet with batter.
Once they are done cooking, you are going to dunk them in your barbecue sauce and place them in your air fryer again for another 5 minutes. Depending on your air fryer and the amount of cauliflower you can fit in it, they may need to be cooked for longer or shorter.
I have the DASH compact air fryer and was able to fit about 5 florets without touching each other so they could cook properly. I did a few batches!
Once they are crispy, take them out and enjoy!! You can add more barbecue sauce if you’d like or dip them in a sauce of your choice. I chose my honey mustard recipe which I will write out below.
OPTION
if you do not own an air fryer, cook your wings at 350F for about 20 minutes with just the batter. Then bake them again for another 20 minutes with the barbecue layer on top.
HOMEMADE HONEY MUSTARD SAUCE
For the honey mustard I did 1/2 cup Dijon mustard (the one I got has amazing ingredients, make sure you buy one without added sugars!)
3 tbsp raw honey
2 tbsp mustard seed powder
1 tsp chill powder (or cayenne)
2 tbsp hot water
Whisk all together!
(I like mine with a lil spice but if you don’t then just add 1/2 tsp of chili / cayenne powder)
HAPPY COOKING !!!!
